Healthcare providers, payers, and other stakeholders are all committed to delivering the highest quality care to patients at the lowest possible costs, and the shift away from fee-for-service reimbursement financially supports their efforts. However, about 41 percent of healthcare payments are still tied to fee-for-service payments models, the Health Care Payment Learning & Action Network (LAN) reports.
The Affordable Care Act may have pushed accountable care organizations (ACOs), pay-for-performance arrangements, and other value-based reimbursement models into the spotlight in 2011. But more still needs to be done to get providers on board with the shift to value-based care, industry experts at Xtelligent Healthcare Media’s Value-Based Care Summit agreed.
